Malignant mesothelioma is the most serious of all asbestos related diseases.  The National Cancer Institute states that: Malignant Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the sac lining the chest (the pleura) or abdomen (the peritoneum).  Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they breathed asbestos The latency period, or time it takes for mesothelioma to manifest after the initial exposure to asbestos, can be from 20-40 years.  A doctor should be seen if a person has any of the following:

  • shortness of breath

  • pain in the chest

  • pain or swelling of the abdomen

Mesothelioma is not caused by cigarette smoking.  In fact, the major cause of mesothelioma is exposure to airborne asbestos.   For more information about this disease visit the American Cancer Society's Malignant Mesothelioma Resource Center.

Many of the companies that manufactured asbestos knew of the adverse effects of their product since before the 1940s.   Various documents have been recovered from these companies that show a conscious effort to prevent  those exposed to asbestos from being informed  about the ill effects of asbestos.

The purpose of this site is to enable and assist victims of mesothelioma and their families, to better understand their choices in coping with this disease.
